Paul D. Allan
Paul is a Principal Consultant at 3esi. He works with a global client base, translating complex analytics in support of executive decision making. His background in drilling, production and reservoir engineering and his consulting experience has provided him with a broad perspective into the exploration and production business.
Prior to joining 3esi, Paul was Vice President of Research and Development at Portfolio Decisions. Over a span of 15 years with the firm as an executive and partner, he was involved in numerous consulting engagements in Asia, Latin America, Western Europe, and North America. His work included assessing company portfolios and providing guidance to senior decision makers on the relative merits and trade-offs of strategic options within their portfolios. Paul has also provided scenario analysis (pricing evaluations, macro-economic variability), risk assessments, merger and acquisition potential, and major project characterization. He has also assisted a number of clients in developing internal portfolio analysis capabilities, developing staff and integrating these methods into a company’s unique planning and decision making processes.
Paul joined Portfolio Decisions after a 10-year career at Burlington Resources. At Burlington, he played a key role in implementing a portfolio management process and integrating portfolio management into the corporate strategic planning and budgeting processes.
Paul has a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering from Texas A&M University. He is an active member of the SPE, and has presented a number of papers on portfolio management, economics, and risking concepts. In his ‘down’ time, he trains for and competes in triathlons, and has developed a fine appreciation for carbon fiber.
