Calgary, Alberta — October 31, 2007
Rose & Associates LLP and 3esi today announced the establishment of the European chapter of the DHI Interpretation and Risk Analysis Consortium, a group whose mission is to promote the consolidation and sharing of Seismic Amplitude Anomaly Data within its member companies as well as to foster the enhancement of the Seismic Amplitude Anomaly Analysis practices and tools.
The overall goals of the Consortium (which is currently operating in Phase 5 for North American Clients) are:
- Address seismic amplitude anomalies, the data behind the anomalies and their impact on prospect assessment.
- Design process improvements and software to characterize seismic amplitude anomalies in a consistent, systematic and thorough manner.
- Calibrate the assessments with documented occurrences of recoverable hydrocarbons in the subsurface and failures through prospect reviews conducted in consortium meetings.
- Provide a forum where specialists from different companies can exchange their experience to accelerate their collective knowledge.
The first European Chapter meeting on Oct. 2-3 was attended by representatives from DONG, Eni, Maersk, Nexen, Noble and Tullow. The Consortium members currently include Anadarko, Hunt Petroleum, Marathon, Murphy Oil, Noble Energy, Samson, StatoilHydro and Repsol.
“Thanks to our partner, 3esi, and their local presence we have been able to establish a European chapter of the DHI Consortium. We are very excited to know that joining the Consortium is now a real possibility for all the E&P companies in Europe, Middle East and Africa (EMEA). We believe the Consortium and the accumulation and sharing of knowledge, and practices that it has brought about, has greatly benefited the existing Consortium members and will no doubt do the same for new members.” said Mike Forrest, now a Consultant, who (after a 37 year career with Shell) leads the DHI Consortium on behalf of Rose & Associates.
“We are very pleased to see that it has finally been possible to create the EMEA chapter of the Consortium, which renders it practical for us to become members of it. The Consortium is a unique worldwide forum where specialists can share information and learn from peers and experts with a life long career in this discipline. We are convinced that the membership to this initiative holds great returns for DONG” said Niels Ter-Borch, Chief Geophysicist of DONG E&P.
